MCHS Knights and Lady Knights Soccer teams both won district champion this past Thursday, October 15, in their respective games against Taylor County. This is the first time in over seven years the Lady Knights have gotten the district championship and the first time in Marion County history that both our boys and girls soccer teams have received a district championship. We are so, so proud of all of our Knights and are wishing them luck as they head to regions! You can go buy tickets to come out and support them at the website below:

The girls game went into Penalty Kicks after going into two five minute overtimes. The players who took the penalty shots were Delaney Hammond, Madison Hardin, Bella Spalding, Josie Murphy and Kenzie Buckler.

“I’m in awe! It’s crazy to think that we were able to go from not knowing if we would even play this year to district champs! We couldn't even touch a ball at practice for six weeks and we had to work in groups of ten solely on conditioning. I truly feel like our team has been able to persevere during these hard times. We have not only improved at an individual level but we have learned how to improve and play as a team. After one of our defenders scored our own goal it definitely had us all on edge but Taylor (Richardson) had some really good saves throughout the game. We all walked into the game knowing Taylor County was undefeated but we kept a good mindset from start to finish and it was definitely worth it. It was a game I will never forget.” Delaney Hammond Lady Knight Player, Senior at MCHS.

Samuel Thompson, who scored the winning goal for the boys game, said, “Well it was definitely heartbreaking when they were able to tie up the game with around 8 minutes left. Going into overtime was something super nerve wracking because we had seen the girls game already and how it ended and almost none of us really wanted it to go to PKs so we were obviously going all out to score in those golden goal minutes. Personally I was just trying to leave it all out on the line because it’s my senior season and that was my last chance to bring home a title and it ultimately paid off.”
