We have really enjoyed getting to know our new sixth graders. Students are starting to make new friends and build relationships with teachers. Enjoy your Friday!

Announcements from the Office
Students are iReady testing next week. This is taking the place of MAP this year. Our students are taking the Reading test on Monday and Tuesday. Let's get a good night's sleep and a good breakfast!

We have 2020-21 yearbooks for sale in the office for $15.

School pictures will be September 1st!

Please make sure your child brings the following each day for school: a charged Chromebook and charger, water bottle, and mask.

MCMS Beta has begun!!! Mrs. Thompson and Mr. Tungate are working to get the word out and distribute information packets. Be on the lookout for this information letter and be sure to ask your students about it.

My child tested positive/is quarantined. Now what?
If students are quarantined or have Covid, they can:

  1. First and most important, log in to Google classrooms daily to complete assignments posted.
  2. Be sure to join Reminds for your teachers that offer it! This way, if you have any questions or concerns, you can easily communicate with your teachers. This can be for both parents and students.
  3. If your child tested positive for Covid, he/she may be eligible to receive homebound services (through Zoom). If you are interested in this, please contact our counselor, Michele Welch, at michele.welch@marion.kyschools.us.
  4. We are working on a plan to offer ESS, where teachers can meet virtually with quarantined students from 3:30-4:30 to answer questions, help with assignments, and/or teach lessons. Once this is set up, we will let you know!

As always, if you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to contact us!

Announcements from the Classroom
7th grade social studies - We are learning about the fall of Rome.

7th grade science - We are starting our unit on cells on Monday.

6th grade science - We will be working on our "Earth and Solar System" unit. Merlin students may want to wear old tennis shoes on Monday because we are doing a "planet walk" outside.

Lancelot ELA - After the iReady Diagnostic test on Monday and Tuesday, we will begin looking at the mood and tone of short stories.

ELA6 - This week we shifted gears and started our first mini-unit on Making Inferences. Making inferences means using clues/observations from the text and what I already know to figure out something the author did not tell me directly. We practiced making inferences with pictures, videos, social media posts, and in a text. On Google Classroom you will find the notes and activities. Next week, students will take a quiz over making inferences on Friday.
